Howdy all, finally decided to joing the board, after about two months of monitoring. I must say, there are a lot of good folks on this board, and I am happy to find a place to discuss FI Integras. Well my question to you all....should I keep my 99 GSR or purchase the Type-R ? I have to make my mind up in less than two weeks. If I keep the GSR, can all of you say with some reasonable confidence that I can use a SC Integra to get back and forth to work ? I am just looking for some insight....I am driving my wife crazy about this topic!!!!!
Let me know what you think, thanks ahead of time.

I am looking for a reliable car that has the ability to handle the curves and not hand over my wallet to a parts store. I do not drag race, I beleive (my own personal thought) that anyone can drive fast in a straight line, so were is the challenge....I guess who has the bigger check book ? I like the R because it has a great out of the box setup but the no cruise control thing bothers me. I travel a lot. Which brings me to another point, would a blower handle road trips, or do I need to update my membership to AAA. I like to drive hard on the winding back roads, I would like to know if the motor will hold up, or should I take the loss of power and go with the R for reliability ?

Since I just took a moderatly long trip in my 'teg I think that the blower does pretty damn well on long trips.

I hauled myself and 500+ pounds of luggage and computers from San Jose to to Orange County just last night and I was a little worried at first. After about 150 miles I relaxed and ran at about 85mph the rest of the way. Including over the steep mountain pass called the Grape Vine here in CA. I didn't even have to down shift from 5th. It was awesom.

    Hi!
I've road tripped from Chicago to Ft. Worth, Texas. Chicago to Toronto, Canada and from Chicago to Greensboro NC. Car has 103K miles now, all with the blower.

After having been in a Type-R recently at a car club meeting, I deeply regret not owning a Type-R. Several people at the meeting had full blown upgraded suspension but still, no one had the handling the Type-R did. That car has chasis modifications that must be keeping it ahead of the GSR. I wish I'd have purchases a Type R and saved my cash later on for an SC kit.

From what you've said, I'd say the a supercharged GS-R would be best. Get a GOOD EXPERIENCED mechanic, perferable one who has done the JRSC install before.

You'll have no problems with long road trips, and the extra torque will make it a joy.

The Type R (I too kind of which I had one, but it's nice to blow them away with the SC), would be very harsh of a ride, noiser too for those road trips)

Do the research, but a nice comfortable GS-R with the SC, faster than the Type R, and about the same price.

Use Mobile 1 oil, and get a GS-R that is used a year or so that is in REALLY GOOD condition.

I would have to say that a SC GSR is much better than a stock R. You can add the 22mm sway bar for better handling, buy better tires (hell these two changes make up a large part of the handling difference). You can upgrade your springs and shocks as well. I really dont feel that the suspension of an R is that much better than a modified GSR, if you modify correctly and not just throw parts on it. I wanted an R purely to have "an R". In the end I think SC and wise suspension upgrades and you will have a very fast, very reliable, super handling integra. And if you dont advertise all your mods it wont get stolen as quick as an R. This is just my insight into this.
How come ever since the R showed up all us GSR owners feel like bastard step children, hell we were here first smile

Thanks, all the responses have been insightful. I am going to drive the R pretty soon, then I will make the call. I have been down the path of turbos before but not SC's, it seems that they are more reliable (according to the posts). Here is the next question.....keep the stock sized wheels on the GSR and just upgrade the meat, or should the wheels go too. Can the car handle well with new shoes only ? And what suspension will work (Bang for Buck), struts and srpings ? I don't see the use for coilovers...I don't AutoX. Let me know you thoughts....thanks again.

I may be a little biased hear, but my choice is for the SC'd Gs-R. Why? As you stated earlier, you do a lot of road trips. I can't possibly imagine taking the long cruizes I do w/o a sunroof nor cruize control. You also have to consider the difference as far as insurance is concered. My insurance wanted and extra 20.00 mo for the "R", also as someone mentioned.. putting an upgraded 22mm swaybar will make up for alot of that roll. I personally have gone with the gc coil over kits. My AGX's just came in but those shocks are supposed to be very very good for the price since they are adjustable.. summit sells them for 90.00 !
By the way, I too don't autox .. at least not yet! smile But coil overs have gone down in price. If I remember correctly lundgren found some skunkworks for 200.00. So again, go for the sc'd gsr.. smoke the r's and save your money!

BTW, I have now put 10k on my motor since the install on september 1. No major problems other than a pesty check engine light. That was due to a faulty FMU that kept sticking psi would not go below 60 @idle (rich). Jackson Racings customer service is just awsome. They overnighted the fmu and has worked like a charm. Also one more important point.. I dog the living crap out of my car.. I cruize at 95 daily on my long trips to my moms house. Also keep in mind that while cruizing, you are not running boost so there is no added strain on engine. Mash the gas and that is a different story, but ooooh whata feelin!
